Carry out calibrations in a ‘hands on’ capacity as required within the laboratory. Calibrating, measuring of precision instruments within both our UKAS scope of accreditation and our non-UKAS calibration range, in a timely and efficient manner. Ensuring customer’s expectations and on time delivery are maintained. Follow UKAS procedures and making adjustments to instruments when necessary. Awareness of the importance of documenting any discrepancies found. Ability to work unsupervised either in TSL permanent Laboratory or when on site, liaising with customers as required. Ensure laboratory equipment used is calibrated and machines are kept serviced, as per maintenance schedules. The ability to use and calibrate handheld instruments such as Micrometres, Vernier Callipers, Sine bars, Angle Plates, Rules, Length Standards, Height gauges, Dial Test Indicators. Operate various models of length measuring machines to calibrate Parallel and Tapered Screw Gauges, as well as Plain Plug and Ring Gauges. Operate and calibrate Optical Projectors, Digital Height gauges, Surface Tables, Hardness testers in our onsite, permanent laboratory or at customers premises. The ability to be cross trained in the areas of pressure, torque and mass calibration to meet business needs. Assisting the Calibration Manager in maintaining the status of internal standards used. Assisting in the development of the Calibration services. Responsible for general housekeeping and shall demonstrate safe working practice at all times. Take part in Kaizen events as necessary. Work with the Calibration Manager and other laboratory staff on other projects and assignments where appropriate. Assist in writing and amending Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Any other duties deemed necessary by business needs or by your Manager.

Engineering background (completed an Engineering Apprenticeship Level 4). Educated to HNC Level and have a  full, UK driving licence. Ability to read engineering drawings and understand geometric tolerances and quality standards, for example ISO9001 & ISO17025. Have an understanding of electrical principles. Good level of IT literacy, to carry out the report writing using software packages. An understanding of UKAS, the role of UKAS, their procedures and high standards of quality. Previous experience within a calibration laboratory desired, but not essential. Willingness and flexibility to be cross trained in other areas of the business.
