Reviews customer approval and manufacturing packages and drawings for fit, form, function, and general conformity to customer specifications and compliance requirements. Supports and executes product BOMs and Routes within the ERP for production order processing. Creates and standardizes components and items within the ERP system. Interfaces with Technical Applications Specialists in determining manufacturable solutions per customer specifications. Conducts basic engineering testing on existing products and prototypes. Assists in processing of Change Notices (CNs) and authors CNs where applicable. Conducts engineering employee training for junior team members. Confirms system and product capabilities by verifying with design codes (ASME, etc.). Assists the Engineering Project Manager in the creation and execution of project plans related to any engineering or new product development projects where they have been assigned as the lead engineer. Designs and tests prototypes and final product reflecting the Voice of the Customer (VOC) for new product development design projects. Collaborates with various Operations departments in developing processes, tools, fixtures, etc. related to products which fall under the responsibility of this role. Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and applying all relevant engineering principles, including, but not limited to mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer. Maintains product & company reputation by complying with government regulations. Manages assigned projects, seeking next-level management and technical assistance as needed to overcome obstacles inherent to assigned projects so as to meet project expectations on time. Organizes and lead product design reviews, DFMEAs, and other collaborative technical activities with project team and customers if necessary. Prepares effective and concise failure analysis reports for assigned products. Reviews emergent designs (including competition) to identify potential design limitations and improvements. Conducts Design for Manufacture/Assembly (DFM/A) activities on current and new products in support of MPE in improving manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency Updates engineering SOPs and other work instructions as needed in an effort to continuously improve efficacy of these documents. Participates in Kaizen/2P Kaizen activities as needed. Completes design inputs form for every new product development design project on time, before completing concept development to ensure alignment with the VOC. Learns and follows lean principles, minimizing cost while maximizing quality from the customer's perspective. Co-leads efforts with project manager to produce a complete set of Phase 1 feasibility characteristics prior to the Phase 1 gate review meeting for every design-responsible new product development project. Keeps abreast of applicable standards as necessary and applicable to scope of R&D responsibility. Provides current product support to other departments, primarily manufacturing wherein immediate attention is usually required. Works with Purchasing, Procurement, and/or Suppliers where technical solutions are required to facilitate supply chain development. Utilizes WIKA's PDM system (Pro.File) for all production-relevant controlled technical documentation. Develops CAD models and drawings in PTC Creo and AutoCAD as needed to meet assignments. Performs ancillary duties as needed.
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, mechatronics, instrumentation, or similar engineering discipline. 4+ of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with pressure and temperature instrumentation, pressure vessels, or related industrial products and applications. Strong mechanical aptitude and proven ability to understand mechanical principles, especially related to instrumentation and pressure vessels. 2 + years’ experience using ERP systems, Microsoft Axapta preferred Working knowledge of Global Standards like ASME, UL, IEC, NEMA, ASTM, ISO, EN, DIN, MIL, RTCA, AGA, etc. Good, working knowledge of Microsoft office products, including MS Project and MS Visio 4+ years' experience using CAD systems (PTC Creo preferred, SolidWorks ok) including demonstrable ability to create, update and maintain 3D CAD models and drawings for products and components. Comparable experience with other parametric 3D modeling may be transferrable. Experience with ISO 9001 and/or ISO 17025 preferred. Experience with common Engineering/Quality tools (e.g. Shainen Red X, 5-Why, DOW, DFM/A, etc.) Good theoretical understanding of product development, manufacturing, simulation methods and techniques, FMEA, DFMA and other multi-industry engineering principles; demonstrable experience in a number of these methods preferred. Working knowledge of project management techniques and methods; experience with project management tools (e.g. including Microsoft Project) preferred. Possess good knowledge of engineering design tools, processes and practices, R&D lab and fabrication equipment. 2+ years' hands-on experience with test lab and/or machine shop tools and equipment preferred. Demonstrated capability to define and drive effective Engineering processes. Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects, stay organized and self-govern workload to meet deliverables in a fast-paced environment with competing demands. Confident person with the ability to connect and inspire others. A proven track record of leading projects and multi-site cross-functional teams that successfully achieve milestones and complete deliverables. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
