The primary responsibility of the Director of Engineering is to lead the R&D Engineering department in the development of new designs and the sustaining of existing designs while also supporting other departments, subsidiaries and customers. Creates new development project plans with input from engineering, marketing, and sales teams Stays up to date with project statuses and reports them to internal staff and committees Interviews and selects candidates for new engineering positions Performs annual reviews for engineering team, creates goals, monitors progress, provides training opportunities, and develops career paths Responsible for the Product Launch Authorization (release of product to production status) Reviews and signs off on work of R&;D engineering team Reviews, modifies, and approves engineering change notices Creates and manages engineering department budget Participates in staff meetings and provides ideas and feedback on company policies Creates and monitors adherence to documented engineering procedures Researches and selects tools and utilities needed by engineers Stays abreast of all current technological developments which could enhance an existing product or be utilized on a new product in the future Stays familiar with competitive product lines Becomes familiar with the design theory and operation of all Mensor products and core competencies Has a thorough understanding of pressure technology and terminology
Four-year college degree in electrical, mechanical, or software engineering or equivalent experience Five or more years of experience in engineering and/or engineering management Three or more years of experience with project management A thorough technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering and the work that each does on a daily basis Special skills Knowledge of all technical equipment used in the manufacture of electronic and pneumatic devices Good communication and interpersonal skills Engineering project management experience including budget and timeline estimation
