Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits. Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc and gas metal arc welding. Monitors the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of materials. Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straight edges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. Sets up, adjusts, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances. Performs ancillary duties as required.
High School Diploma preferred. Must be able to pass a 6G welding test. Must be able to pass LPI and X-ray. Ability to interpret blueprints or drawings. Ability to communicate verbally in English. Works well in a team or group dynamic.
