Sets up and operates a variety of machines Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools Maintains industrial machines Applies knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders Sets up, adjusts, and operates all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations Measures, examines, and tests completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications Sets controls to regulate machines, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Maintains industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layouts, and machining procedures. Performs ancillary duties as needed

2-5 years previous machinist experience in a manufacturing environment Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent. Excellent communication skills Ability to speak read and write English. Good mechanical skills required. Manufacturing experience preferred, especially if it was in a “lean” environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision and the ability to distinguish between subsets of individual colors and quality of colors. Good eyesight (eyesight correction acceptable). Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Able to monitor performance and be able to make improvements or take corrective action. Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
