Lead development of optical sensing systems (interferometry, fibre optics). Support existing sensor transducer design, working on new designs and prototyping (incl. sensing element, fibre, lens, etc.). Simulation of sensing systems, components and data analysis. Hands on set-up and carry out prototype tests, including data analysis and interpretation of the test results. Design and implementation of interrogation schemes incl. processing algorithm definition and evaluation. Support planning and Execution of R&D projects. Design documentation & external report production, patent portfolio support (applications, maintenance).

Solid understanding of physics (optics), fibre optics. Understanding of optical devices (lasers, PDs, etc.) and measurement equipment (OSA, etc.). Signal processing and algorithms, regression analysis. Statistical data analysis and performance data analysis (error evaluation, uncertainties, etc.) Practical experience of working in the development laboratory environment & using optical interferometry, optical sensors, fibre optics, optoelectronics to measure physical parameters. NI LabVIEW code to control test equipment and acquire data, perform data analysis. Experience in Python (or similar) programming languages to perform test control and data analysis. Some optics modelling experience and ability to specify modelling parameters. Setting up experiments, understanding inputs, outputs and dependencies MSc or PhD degree level in a relevant engineering or physics subject and preferably some years of experience in a relevant field or industry.  Desirable:  Strong understanding of optoelectronics and interfaces. Familiarity with simulation tools (Python and relevant libraries, Matlab, Zemax, etc.). Able to support and contribute to the transfer of technology into a production environment. Identify areas of innovation and contribute to company IP portfolio (submit ideas for patents).
